Paul Hayward has been the Musical Director of the Radcliffe Ladies Choir since November 2022 and directs three other choirs in the Midlands. He read music at the University of Wales, Bangor, before undertaking postgraduate study in choral composition at the University of Aberdeen with Professor Paul Mealor. Paul is in the process of completing a doctorate in composition there, having been awarded a Carlaw-Ogston scholarship. Paul has a number of other diplomas to his name, including in the fields of conducting, composition and performance.
Paul's career was, for many years, in the field of church and cathedral music, where he held cathedral organ and choral scholarships, as well as two assistant cathedral organist positions. During this time, he played for and conducted choirs in services, concerts, broadcasts, recordings, tours and a royal visit. He then decided to move away from the organ to concentrate on a career built around conducting and composing and often leads "come and sing" events and choral days. Paul honed his technique on the Association of British Choral Directors' course for advanced conductors with Peter Broadbent and Neil Ferris, resulting in the award of the LRSM in choral directing.
